Barack’s Triple Whammy (or “Wake Me Up When November Ends”)
By now, I am sure that everyone is aware of the publicity surrounding the racially-charged remarks made by Barack Obama’s pastor and spiritual advisor or, as the Senator is quick to say, his “former pastor.” And, I am sure that everyone has heard Mr. Obama’s statement that Rev. Wright is “like an old uncle who says things that I don’t always agree with” or, as I am quick to say “an old uncle who I chose to officiate my wedding, baptize my children, advise me during my political climb, inspire my best-selling book, and pray with me just before I announced my candidacy for President. You know, THAT old uncle.”
What is truly tragic about this entire poisonous affair is that it will barely slow, much less stop, Barack Obama’s campaign. You see, he is fortunate enough to have the rare “triple whammy” of the political world. He is a black, Liberal Democrat. For some reason that is beyond my comprehension, as a country we hold Democrats to lower standard of behavior than Republicans, Liberals to a lower standard than Conservatives, and blacks to a lower standard than whites. In Mr. Obama’s case, that means he can barely do any wrong whatsoever. Or, if he does, it means that no one is allowed to point it out without being a mean-spirited, conservative bigot. So, Obama will look back on this as “that bump in the road.”
Imagine for just a second if it came to light that John McCain’s pastor had made the exact same remarks, only in this case imagine that instead of whites, he was railing against Jews (or women, or Muslims). John McCain’s political life would not last the time it would take to read the headline. And, after he was forced to resign his Senate seat in disgrace, he would have no public life whatever. No speeches, no columns, no Saturday Night Live appearances (at least not in person, but decades worth in parodies).
And so it goes. Rev. Jeremiah Wright is correct about one thing. This nation is still steeped in racism. What he has wrong, however, is who the racists are. The true racists in this country are those Liberals who believe, quite deeply, that a black man simply cannot live up to the standards that “white society” sets for itself. They will give a pass to a black, Liberal Democrat that they would even deny themselves. The racism of low expectations is alive and well in their bleeding hearts.

Agreed on most counts except one. I’m not convinced that this controversy will not slow the momentum of his campaign. The race is close with Hillary and I do think this will tip the scales her way when considering they needed very little tipping to begin with. In some poll I’m too lazy to go back and find and can’t remeber the name of, but a farly well known poll, Obama’s approval numbers have taken a sizable hit in the span of a week, something like an 11% drop. Perhaps that poll is flawed in some way, but I really do think his campaign is in serious trouble over this and it seems to have reminded a bunch of formerly fawning Obama fan-boys that this man has not been vetted and perhaps, just perhaps, they have been duped.

Unfortunately true it would be nice to think that our canidates are rated on their on merit but that is not the case. It’s amazing how long BO has been able to hang on and as well based on what has been uncovered or discovered!
